Kamijo reveals his name came from MALICE MIZER and reflects on his early days

Kamijo has launched a new autobiographical series for JaME titled LA VIE EN ROSE, offering a personal look into his 30+ year journey in visual kei and his mission to share its true history with the world.

In Chapter 1, he recalls his first encounter with MALICE MIZER in 1994 while working as a roadie, describing their overwhelming, almost otherworldly presence even off stage. He also shares how his stage name “Kamijo” was born. Originally called “Shoki”, he adopted the name after the band members began calling him that.

He also reflects on witnessing the band’s creative process up close, highlighting members like Mana Sama and Közi, as well as the intensity of the live scene, late nights in Tokyo, and key moments like meeting future bandmates of Lareine, the group that would emerge during those years, and the departure of vocalist Tetsu, signaling both the end of an era and the beginning of his own story.
