MALICE MIZER’s “Au Revoir” nearly didn’t make it onto the tour stage. During rehearsals in Japan, Gackt told HIDEHIRO the performance would depend entirely on the drums, even sitting down to demonstrate subtle nuances himself.
“HIDEHIRO, if you use the flam like this, it adds sensuality. I used to teach this to Kami as well” he explained. With the song not fully polished in time, it was ultimately left out of the Mexico and Brazil shows.
That changed at the final stop of the Latam tour in Santiago de Chile. The long awaited performance finally happened, an emotional moment built on trust and preparation. HIDEHIRO was especially moved hearing Chilean fans sing the lyrics in Japanese, a powerful reminder that music transcends borders.
The song had been part of the plan from early on. During the concert, Gacktology shared a photo on X of the January rehearsal setlist, where “Au Revoir” was already listed, confirming it had always been in the tour’s original vision.
The impact was immediate. Clips quickly spread across X, igniting widespread discussion and pushing “Au Revoir” into Japan’s trending topics. Many Japanese fans were surprised to learn the full version had been performed overseas, amplifying the historic significance of the show.
Will we finally see the three original members of MALICE MIZER reunite with Gackt on stage? After this tour reignited so much passion, it has become the ultimate dream for fans in Japan and around the world, to witness MALICE MIZER together again, even if just one last time.
It’s also important to remember that the Merveilles era never truly had a proper ending. While the tour was still underway, Gackt released “Mizerable” marking the beginning of his solo career. The band reportedly waited, hoping to conclude the tour together, but that final moment never happened. Gackt ultimately departed, and the chapter closed without the farewell many fans felt it deserved.
